Jo Turner Session

Today Jo Turner came to our class and taught us a new word which was Neuroplasticity and the meaning. She taught us that neurons is connected to your brain and it signals what to do around your body. After she taught us we did a activity, we had to make neurons out of play dough and it was really fun because I haven’t played with play dough in a while.

How to be a good role model

A role model has leadership, Respectful, Kind and helpful. They care for each others. They listen to what good people say.  A role model shows leadership,  it someone that people look upto and people that follows them.  It has sense in humor, that can control other people and that can control  body language. That finishes their work on time. That they can look after people anger then them. They have good sportsmanship. That listen carefully. That can help people, Student learn. That can look after young people, That take care of their parent.

They make good choices, they look after the environment, property and others. That picks up rubbish when they see it lying on the floor.  They help their parent clean the house, they take care of there siblings. They focus on school to get a good life. To make good friends. To turn bad friends to good friends. They don't tag on the walls, books, netbook and other property. They follow good people and follow the right steps. They join in every class activity,  they join in other class group discussion. It Respects self and other. It humble, and honest. It grateful.

Thinking skills, A role model should knowledge and good thinking skills, when they see bad things happen they go and tell the teacher. They use the school rules, or the class rules. They finish their work on time, and they use there brain properly, and they use their WITS, means walk away, Ignore, Tell The Teacher, and seek it out. So who ever is reading this use WITS when you get bullied or getting butdownd.

Leadership, If you're a role model you need to be a leader so people can see you as a role model. You would have to have sense of humour and be able to help teacher in need when their is a fight. And take you role seriously and your behaviour.

Respectful,  If you're a role model you need to be respectful find and help, it means u need to respect other, be kind, and talk nicely to other people, it means to look after one another and love one another. You should have humbleness and kindness, you need to be grateful and caring. You make good friends and turn bad friends to good friends.

Behavior, A role model should have a good attitude and behavior because the little ones will look upto you and you might not know they might start acting up and being naughty because you weren’t being a good role model. Also be humble,honest person and a role model should always active listening to the speaker and tell your classmates to be quiet so they know what to do or else tell the teacher.

Sportsmanship, one of the things to be a role model to sportsmanship, you need participate in a lot of sport activity. Have fair play on and off field and you need to be sporty and need to be fit, you have to do heaps of fitness. Always shake hands after you play a game.

Niva Retimanu

Today Niva Retimanu came to our school and talked about her career. She works at the radio industry for 30 years and a samoan journalist and she was our Duffy Role Model. She also lived at Invercargill  in the south island and raised from Samoan parents.

After she introduced herself she read us a story called Kiss Kiss Yuck Yuck. The story was about a young named Andy and he was annoyed because every time a girl sees him she always kisses him. Everytime she kisses him he says ‘Yuck Yuck’.

Then Finally, Niva helped us present some duffy books to students in each class. We ended the duffy assembly by singing the duffy song and she left feeling happy and we really enjoyed getting to know her.

Bush Craft

     

On Wednesday the 23rd of August Glenbrae school 2017 year 7&8 had camp at Russell. My group which was group 1 did Bush craft with Michael because it was part of our activities for our year 7&8 camp near the campsite.

First thing I saw was a lot of ropes,bamboo sticks,tarpaulin, and pegs top teach us how to set up a tent. Michael taught us how to tightly tie up a knot then told us to listen carefully because we had to do it after him on a tree. So we picked our partners and chose a tree and tried a knot and we got it right on our 1st go. We both were proud that we got it so we continued to repeat it so it could be stuck in our head.

Next, Michael showed us how to tie a knot to a tree or bamboo for an example. So we had to repeat with our partners but we got a simple little mistake that made us get it wrong. But we tried again and we got the little mistake away and got it correct. So we did the same as the knot on the tree we started repeating it over and over again till it was stuck in out head.

Then Finally, he showed us how to set up a tent for the night that we’re going to sleep outside. So after about 30 minutes we setted up the tent and the good thing was we used all the knots that Michael showed us how to tighten stuff so the tent wouldn’t fall down.

Today 3 classes from Glenbrae School went to Auckland Girl's Grammar to watch a performance called Grease. They also memorised their lines and also memorised the songs with there beautiful voices. They had awesome costumes and the main actor was Sandy and Danny.

Crusaders won the super rugby cup for 2017 versing Lions and it was cool because the coach was so happy he started dancing.

How to make Maori Bread

Maori bread is a traditional Maori sourdough potato bread.

Ingredients:

5x cups of flour

600 mils milk

5 cups baking powder

Butter

1st step - We got a bowl

2nd step - We measure  5x cups of flour in the bowl

3rd step - Then we added 600 mils of yum milk inside the bowl

5th step - We added 5 cups of baking powder

6th step - Then we mixed it everything that was in the bowl

7th step - We rubbed the dough it against the flour

8th step - Then we baked it for 30 mins until it raised

9th step - Then we buttered it and ate it

Technology

This morning  I walk to Tamaki College for tech every Friday. What we did today was finishing of our project made out of wood. I'm making a truck so I could giving to my little cousins to play with. So we carved so we can make our project nice and perfect but first off all we had to plan and draw how our project will come out. But sometimes when we come early we just play around.

Fitness

This morning room 7 went outside and did a few stretches with our reliever Mrs Gray. After a few stretches we ran around the court 3 times because we were getting fit for our camp in the next 2 weeks. After our court run we did a relay boys vs girls and boys won the 1st and 2nd round. My favourite part of fitness was the relays and stretches.

Today we have been learning about the three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas) and the changes of matter. In this experiment we first did activities and we made chocolate after that.

This meant that the chocolate changed from a melted chocolate to a thick chocolate.

In our class we've been learning about William Shakespeare and it was fun getting to know him and his history.

In the context of sustainability I have design and produce a A maze game for 7 to 10? year olds to be used to Don’t drink and drive.

My game doesn't because I haven't finished it.

P.E Lesson

Today we had P.E and we got in 3 groups, 2 groups played netball with our Teacher Mrs Tofa and the other group did some drills and played games with our new student teacher Miss Ogram. And Miss Ogram was from university and Glenbrae is her 2nd school.

 It was fun because we played netball and played another game then we came back to netball, and we carried on like that until it was 10:00. We all enjoyed it because you could see the smile on their faces and some of them were sweating.

Today we had the opportunity to go to St Heliers and perform our dance that we've been practising for about 4 weeks.They all so asked question at the end of our performance. It was a big Retirement home and also had a dinning room aswell. We all enjoyed it and we hope they enjoyed it aswell.

Tennis and Glenbrae Kids

Today was our last week of Tennis today.We had tournaments and we had to switch when we lose but if you win you go to the other side and you'll be a champion. When your champion you'll vs the losing people from the other court.

After tennis we had a visit to the Glenbrae Kids and the first thing we did was our greeting song called 'Toro Mai'. Then we picked our little buddies and took them to the park and also introduced ourselves. So we carried on playing like another 20 minutes then we had to go and say by to our buddies.

Air Pollution

The presence in or introduction into the air of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects. Life could not exist on Earth without trees because they produce most of the oxygen that humans and wildlife breathe. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. We should stop cutting trees and start growing trees. A short way to call Oxygen is O2 and a short way to call Carbon Dioxide is Co2.

Science Intensive

Today we had Science in room 8. Our topic was water pollution, first Miss Stone took us for fitness then we came back and did a water pollution activity and a game also. Then after morning- tea we did art. We finished art and went swimming until lunch.

Today I learnt that dropping rubbish in the drain can effect people and animals around the world. We also checked our school drain and I felt sad because is was dirty and can pollute the water. The rubbish outside was dirtier than our class.

Moana presentation

I have been learning how to code using hour of code. The skills that i have learnt include using the move forward,block,repeat, and fish.

I have shared my moana presentation in my Eportfolio, to showcase my work.

Water Pollution

Water Pollution

The water gets polluted cause the waste and rubbish that people chuck in the drain and the sea. In Antarctica the water is polluted and a small island called Tuvalu is drowning because of the water pollution in Antarctica. Water pollution can affect those sea animals in the sea, also there are many sea animals on youtube that ate rubbish from us humans that throw our rubbish in the sea.

Technology ePortfolios

In technology we would be trialling the use for ePortfolios. The ePortfolios will be used to visually showcase the work we do in technology. We will use our ePortfolios in each technology subject. We will use our blogs to reflect on our learning. We will also use the class blog Year 8 digitech blog to collaborate on different learning activity's.These are the different ways in which we will share what we learn.

Trip To Tauranga

3 weeks ago my Family and I drove to Papamoa, which is the largest suburb in Tauranga and we went there so we could celebrate Christmas there. So when it was Christmas day my cousins woke up and straight ran under the Christmas tree with there excited faces. Our parents were laughing because my cousins were so aggressive opening their presents. We also stayed there for New Year's and for New Years we went to a nice Chinese Restaurant called Kwang Chow at Mount Maunganui and they had very delicious food. When we got home we finished our New Years with a movie called Moana. Then we were all fast asleep.
